The importance of GDPR and data privacy
The importance of GDPR and data privacy. Sometimes not only companies don't respect the rules but also some government officials.

Yesterday Gabriel Attal - Minister of Public Actions and Accounts France - annonced the plan of actions against tax evasion of French citizens residing abroad, including, among the others, actions like: accessing the data of French citizens kept with the air companies , meaning that they want to get access to all the flights.

This plan flaws for plenty of reasons.

1) basis fundamental of French Constitution and European principles is a privacy of life and freedom of movements.

2) getting access to French citizens who are non-residents in France will automatically mean that the access will be granted to the data of other citizens (residents, since it's impossible on a air company level to perform such a sorting)

3) airFrance is not the only company in the world and I highly doubt that air companies not registered in France may consider such an action

4) any tax investigations and argumentations should be done in a defensive way - if there is a suspicion of tax evasion- only this private individual should be a subject of investigation and in this context he/she should prove if he/she is a resident in France or not including proof of residency somewhere else.

5) of course by all the actions monsieur Gabriel Attal wants to justify the spendings on extra 2000 new officers who aim to control the data. I do believe that the bureaucracy shouldn't progress extensively. Progress is here in 2023 and using the modern AI and other technologies we should expect shortcuts of the number of the state employees responsible for monotonous work.

Modern AI technologies should also help in detecting tax evasions in a much more productive way and in multiple directions rather than just trying to fix one brick in the whole tax puzzle.

Overall I think that the lack of competence should be covered. I don't see that data privacy nowadays is really taken seriously and I do believe there is a huge room for improvement not only for average employees but also for the supervisory bodies.
