Happy Friday, everyone! A few weeks ago, I challenged myself to tackle my procrastination habits head-on, and I'm thrilled to share that I've made significant progress. The number of projects is huge, there are many tasks, and I realised that I began to drown in them! I developed an effective plan and thanks to it I have already solved 60% of the tasks that have been hanging for a long time!
Create a task list! Initially, I hesitated to compile this list as I feared the sight of over 100 pending tasks. However, avoiding it only exacerbated the situation. But in the end I reconciled the tasks and there were a little more than 70 of them.
Identify the underlying reasons. To better understand my procrastination tendencies, I started identifying the reasons behind postponing each task. I discovered a range of factors such as tasks requiring significant effort, uncertainty about how to approach them, time-consuming nature, fear of facing the outcome, or lack of belief in success.
Completing easy tasks. Surprisingly, more than half of the tasks had no valid reasons for not completing them. I knew how to solve them and believed in their success. I decided to prioritize these tasks and managed to check off 20% of them in just one day!
Tackling the most challenging tasks. I selected a group of tasks that had been postponed for the longest time and had the highest volume. In my case, it revolved around bookkeeping and accounts. I made the decision to modify certain accounting approaches and delegate most of the responsibilities. Previously, I had been the bottleneck in this area.
Reflecting on progress. In the end of the day, I dedicate some time to reflect on what I have accomplished, how I have tackled tasks, what remained unfinished, and why. This practice provided me with a sense of satisfaction from the completed tasks. It's similar to the retrospectives we conduct in Agile, but on a personal level.
I hope this was useful! What methods do you use to be productive?
